Life can feel heavy sometimes. As a psychotherapist, I spend my days diving deep into challenges, emotions, and solutions. While I love my work, I also believe it’s important to find moments to laugh and lighten the load. That’s why I want to share a recommendation that’s less about therapy techniques and more about pure joy: the Apple TV+ show Shrinking.

If you haven’t heard of it yet, Shrinking stars Jason Segel as Jimmy Laird, a grieving therapist who throws professional norms out the window, choosing to tell his clients exactly what he thinks—consequences be damned. The result? Chaos, hilarity, and surprisingly heartfelt moments. Harrison Ford plays his mentor, Dr. Paul Rhodes, and together they navigate the complexities of therapy, grief, and human connection in ways that are both refreshingly real and completely over the top.
As a therapist, I’ll admit: watching the professional boundary breaches can be a bit cringeworthy—but that’s part of the fun. Therapists will appreciate the humor in those moments, while everyone else will simply enjoy the ride. The show strikes a perfect balance between relatable struggles and quirky characters, delivering laughs and emotional depth in equal measure.
For me, Shrinking has been more than just entertaining. On some of those tougher days, it’s become an easy way for my husband and me to sit down, unwind, and share a laugh together. There’s something incredibly comforting about watching a show that can make you laugh out loud while also tugging at your heartstrings.
So, if you’re looking for a way to lighten the mood, I highly recommend giving Shrinking a try. It’s a reminder that even in the messiness of life, there’s always room for laughter—and sometimes, that’s exactly what we need.
Have you watched Shrinking? I’d love to hear your thoughts! Share your favorite moments in the comments below or let me know what you think of the show. After all, connecting over a good laugh might just be the best kind of therapy.
