ABOUT ME

Jennifer BuergerMy philosophy on therapy is that learning essential skills can allow people to create more fulfilling relationships and a happier life. In a warm, relaxed setting, I help my clients develop more effective communication and problem-solving skills. Clients also learn how their thoughts and perceptions impact their feelings, moods and actions.

As a therapist, I help individuals and families gain insight into themselves. With self-awareness and the skills developed in therapy, you will be able to implement healthier behaviors and realize more positive ways of living. Together, we, as a team, can work towards happiness and fulfillment. You are the "driver" and determine what goals you would like to obtain, while I help build your skills, allowing you to obtain the results you want.

I view therapy as a safe, non-judgmental environment in which clients can recognize and nurture personal strengths, talents and creative abilities. As a by-product of the collaborative work of therapy, clients are able to strengthen their resiliency, enhance their self-esteem and achieve more balanced, satisfying and fulfilling lives.

Everyone goes through a tough time in their lives: martial separation, loss of a loved one, inability to conceive a child, or a period of the "blues." My clients know me for my ability to help them help themselves.

I use an array of therapeutic interventions and schools of thought including cognitive-behavioral, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy and EMDR. With these approaches I teach you to override your initial thought process and instead create a desired behavior and outcome.

I've been an Adolescent, Adult, Couple and Family Therapist for over 14 years, working in Baltimore for the past 5 years. Prior to going into private practice I had experience in a variety of settings, including a community agency, juvenile detention center, and inpatient and outpatient hospital departments.

Now, I specialize in:

DBT certification
EMDR trained
Trauma & Loss certification
Member of American Society of Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) and its Mental Health Professionals Group (MHPG)

BSW University of Kansas
MSASS (MSW equivalent) from Case Western Reserve University Mandel School for Social Science
